I'm one of those strange Americans who travels, I've even had my very own passport since I was 12. (most Europeans are quick to point out that most Americans don't) I've enjoyed living in the UK for the past 1 1/2 years, and have just signed up to stay a few years more. The best part of living here has been the chance to travel (okay - and becoming a rugby fan). I still haven't gotten the hang of the British sense of humour, but have been known to be inadvertently funny by saying something that doesn't quite translate.
